FINAL DEBATE POSITION PAPER

Since our CIMUN grades weren't given to our teacher we had to have one last debate that would be our quarterly exam grade for UN together with our country binder. This is the position paper I wrote for this debate...

Committee: WHO
Topic: What can be done worldwide to reduce or prevent child obesity?
Country: Spain
Delegate: Ma. Fernanda Jasso
School: Colegio Ingles

Obesity is one of the most critical health problems worldwide. This disease doesn’t only causes psychological issues; it is also the major cause of some other problems like diabetes, hypertension, and other heart diseases. The worst part about this problem is that children are being affected and when a child is obese as a kid is most likely to be either obese/overweight or have health problems as an adult that’s why we need to alert parents so that they can do something to prevent later health issues of their children.

Statistics show that right now in Spain 2 out of every 10 children have an overweight problem, which is twice the amount as it was 20 years ago. Even though there has been and increase it’s still a very small one. Spanish culture has always been used to eat homemade food and their taste has always been more selective and healthier. In my delegation, the NAOS (Nutrition and Obesity Prevention Strategy) is asking to the fast food industry to lower he sodium content on their food by 10% and is also trying to establish health programs and to promote the selling of healthy snacks in schools all over around Spain.

My delegation thinks that we should start by setting a proper nutrition program that will help to create a healthy way of life by recommending the correct diet according to your age and socioeconomic level. This program will also include a daily 60-minute work out routine that will be focusing more in younger kinds so that way they grow up with healthier habits. My delegation is now open to hear more solutions…
